Women’s reproductive health is among the top concerns for most countries around the world. This is due to the fact that the different types of ovarian cysts are found to be the cause of suffering for millions of women. This medical condition could occur as early in a female’s teen years up to the final stage of fertility known as menopause. At least once in a woman’s life, she could experience having one or more cysts.
Having ovarian cysts therefore could almost be synonymous to being a woman. It is then but fitting for you to understand how they occur and how they might affect you. Start off with knowing about their nature of existence. They start out as fluid or hard element-filled sacs or pouches in the ovaries and later mature with respect to the individual’s unique genetic make-up, environmental surroundings and medical history.
Most types of ovarian cysts occur during the process of ovulation on a monthly basis. During a particular cycle, follicles containing eggs and fluids are produced and are expected to release the contents into the ovaries. When these do not break, the follicles would then become the cystic formations.
The most common type present in most women is the follicular cyst. This one is often referred to as the functional kind too because the women who have it may not even know of their presence. This is because no painful symptoms are felt upon their onset in the ovaries. This typically disappears in 1-2 menstrual cycles. In some cases however, the woman who have it might experience abdominal pain, irregular period or vomiting.
The polycystic ovary is another kind that exhibits the same symptoms. This is also one of the common ones among the types of ovarian cysts. One who suffers from it could acquire the polycystic ovarian syndrome. As the syndrome worsens, one could feel further discomfort and even suffer the risk of infertility.
Another variety of cyst in the ovary is the endometriomas or chocolate cysts. These are associated with having thick uterus lining or endometriosis. This kind of cyst is typically found in the lining of uterus walls and attached to the ovaries. Among its symptoms are pelvic pain and infertility.
Dermoid, complex and multiple ovarian cysts are the other types of ovarian cysts. The first one is quite different from the rest due to its structure. It has mature skin with sweat glands, hair follicles and fats. The second one may contain both fluid and hard elements. The last type is a group of cysts, which occurred all at the same time.
These types of ovarian cysts are initially benign but at once they fully develop, they could be malignant and cancerous. So as you can avoid having worsened condition, you must always get pelvic exam. This way the doctor could diagnose their existence early on.
